During my 200-hr yoga teacher training in 2014-2015, we discussed ahimsa, which loosely translates to non-violence. The gist is that a yogi should aim to live in a manner that does not cause suffering to other beings. I took this concept to heart and sought to make sure that my next purchase – a pair of yoga pants – was produced by people who were compensated well and treated with respect.
I figured that this would be a simple undertaking, but it wasn’t. Companies typically don’t brag about how well they treat their workers (which probably means that they have nothing to brag about!), and I couldn’t find a directory of such companies anywhere.
The prospect of creating my own directory has been on my radar for over five years, and I’ve done nothing with it because it’s such a daunting project. But, it’s been nagging me relentlessly and my gut tells me that I must get over my inhibitions and just create the damn thing! So, here we go. It’s a labor of love and is far from being perfect. But I’m pouring my heart into it because it needs to happen.
The Awakened Heart Project (or just TAHP) may evolve into more than a list of compassionate companies, and more will be revealed about my grand vision for it shortly. But for now, I’m taking one step forward at a time…I’m a one-woman show, after all! Anyway…
This list should evolve quickly and will cover companies of all kinds. I have plans to upgrade this site to a directory-themed one before long and could really use your help. If you’d like to contribute to this project, please consider donating to my Go Fund Me page (to be launched shortly) or sending me info on businesses or service providers that belong on this list via this contact form. More to follow soon. Thank you greatly for your interest and support!
