I provide personalized meditation instruction to those who are either new to meditation or otherwise struggle with it.
How it works
During your first session we will:
- Identify a “comfortable enough” meditation posture
- Discuss different meditation methods to see what resonates best (more on this below)
- Prepare the body for meditation with pranayama (breathwork)
- Assess your experience and address issues that arose
Subsequent sessions will involve a check-in and will be tailored to working through challenges.
Due to COVID-19, all sessions will occur via Zoom (or another video platform) until further notice.
Background & qualifications
Traditional yoga and meditation go hand-in-hand, and though I had practiced yoga for years, I didn’t start meditating until maybe 2012. My first sits didn’t last long – probably less than 11 minutes (that’s when my foot always falls asleep), I had no technique or teacher, and my monkey mind was fierce. Nonetheless I persisted.
I discovered the magic of meditation the following year when I found myself entrenched in a soul-crushing child custody lawsuit and was desperately seeking a spiritual reprieve. Through meditation I was able to forgive and feel true compassion for the person who was suing me (you can read about that here). This experience became a pivotal moment in my life.
Since then, my meditation practice has evolved. I had (and currently have) the opportunity to study meditation during my yoga teacher trainings, and I’ve devoted myself to exploring meditation in depth. Basically, I’m my own human guinea pig! I have embraced different meditation methods, extended the length of my sits, and wrestled with various postures and props before finding something that worked for me. And, I’ve learned how to go with the flow if I’m uncomfortable or my foot falls asleep. It’s something that doesn’t happen often anymore, but when it does it’s no longer biggie. Seriously.
These days, I meditate daily with only the occasional miss. It’s an amazing practice, but despite its simplicity it isn’t easy and having a guide can be very helpful. I would be honored to be your guide.
How I teach
There are countless ways to meditate, but I only teach that which I actively practice or have direct experience with:
- Mantra (sometimes called Japa) meditation
- Guided based on a theme, e.g., compassion
